Price: $80.00

Audubon Bluebird Sterling Christmas Ornament 1985 Hand & Hammer #0615.  This sterling silver collectible was inspired by a watercolor by James Audubon, the famed naturalist.  The bluebirds are a group of medium-sized, mostly insectivorous or omnivorous birds in the genus Sialia of the thrush family.  Bluebirds are one of the few thrush genera in the Americas. They have blue, or blue and red, plumage. Female birds are less brightly colored than males, although color patterns are similar and there is no noticeable difference in size between sexes.

John James Audubon (April 26, 1785 – January 27, 1851) was a French-American ornithologist, naturalist, and painter. He was notable for his expansive studies to document all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations that depicted the birds in their natural habitats. His major work, The Birds of North America (1827-1839), is considered one of the finest ornithological works. Audubon identified 25 new species and a number of new sub-species.
